Program:  New Paph Species

by

Sandy Ohlund

Bring plants for "show and tell"

Meeting:

The presentation will cover the paph species discovered or rediscovered in the past 50 years, and will include commentary on the division of paphs into various groups by both Phillip Cribb and Guido Braem.  A handout with current classification by both of these ladyslipper authorities will be distributed to the audience.  She will have slides to illustrate the groups and species covered.

Sandy lives in Rolling Prairie, Indiana, and is a Spanish professor at Holy Cross College, Notre Dame, Indiana.  Currently she is Co-President and Co-Show Chairman of the Michiana Orchid Society, based in South Bend, Indiana.  She has grown orchids for twenty-five years, both in a 15' x 21' greenhouse and in the basement under seven thousand watts of HID and fluorescent lights.  In the greenhouse she grows vandas, dendrobiums, coelogynes, brassias and cattleyas, while in the basement she grows paphs and phrags, miltoniopsis, and a few masdevallias, oncidiums and disas---but her passion is paphs and phrags.  She is a certified judge with the AOS, and hopefully this fall will go from probationary to accredited status.

She is just a hobby grower, but grows many paphs and phrags from flask, so she often offers some of the seedlings for sale---to help support her orchid addiction!

She will be bringing some plants for sale.  See the attached list – and be sure to contact Sandy if you want to reserve plants.
