Robert G. Halgren, Ph.D.

Bring plants for "show and tell"

Meeting:

According to Mr. Halgren:  “The plan is to show some pretty pictures and give an idea of the variety within the group and why your members should grow some.  I will probably spend some time talking about general culture, although that isn't very complex.  I could spend considerable time talking about taxonomy and breeding, but I find that most people don't really find that as interesting as I do.”

Rob started growing orchids about... 12 years ago now, but really got started in earnest when he was in Chicago at graduate school.  Now he is a research specialist and lecturer at MSU in Genomics and Bioinformatics.  He grows mainly Paphs and Phrags, but also has interest in other genera.  Species mostly.  He grows under lights, with some plants going outside for the summer.   The Catesetinae bug has recently bitten him, and that collection is increasing rapidly.   He is also a student judge in the Great Lakes Judging Center.

Rob tells us he will be bringing plants.

Upcoming Events:

*   Spring Garden Show, Wings Stadium – 15-17 Mar 02

*   Michiana @ Fernwood Nature Center, 6-7 Arp02 – combination meeting with Michiana club
